Welcome to the "Automated Gate Quick-Start" Level 1 course! This introductory course is designed for professionals entering the field of automated gate installation. You will learn the fundamental skills needed to plan, install, and configure an automated gate system safely and efficiently. By the end of this course, you’ll have a foundational understanding of project layout, installation techniques, and safety protocols.

DAY 1

Module 1: Introduction to Automated Gate Systems

Learning Objectives

• Understand the components of an automated gate system.

• Perform a mock site survey and create a layout plan for an automated gate.

Module 3: Saw Cutting and Concrete Pad Installation

• Understand saw cutting techniques for precise conduit placement.
• Learn how to prepare and pour concrete pads for gate operators and pedestals.

Module 4: Pedestal Mounting and Conduit Installation

DAY 2

Module 5: Mounting Gate Operators and Entry Systems

• Install and align gate operators and entry systems accurately.
• Learn wiring basics for gate operators and entry systems.

• Entry system installation, including radio controls and keypads.
• Troubleshooting misalignment.

• Mount a gate operator and configure an entry system.

Module 6: Inground Loop Installation

Learning Objectives

• Understand the function of inground loops for gate detection.
• Learn installation techniques for optimal performance.

• Loop placement for safety and functionality.
• Wiring loops to the gate controller.
• Testing loop sensitivity.

Practical Exercise

• Install a functional inground loop and connect it to a control panel.

Module 7: Safety Device Installation and Wiring

Learning Objectives

• Learn about the importance of safety devices in automated gate systems.
• Install and wire photo eyes, edge sensors, and other safety mechanisms.

• Types of safety devices and their purposes.
• Wiring configurations for safety devices.
• Testing safety systems for compliance and reliability.

• Install and test a photo eye and edge sensor.

Course Wrap-Up

Final Assessment

• Participants will design and install a complete mock automated gate system, incorporating all learned techniques and ensuring proper functionality and safety.

Certification

• Upon successful completion of the final assessment, participants will receive a "Fence University Automated Gate Installer Level 1" certificate.

Required Tools and Materials provided by The Fence University during course instruction.

Power tools (saws, drills, concrete mixer)

• Gate operator and entry system kit
• Safety equipment (gloves, goggles, etc.)
• Measurement tools (tape measure, level, square)

Course Duration

• 2 days (16 hours total)
• • Day 1: Modules 1-4
  • Day 2: Modules 5-7 and final assessment

This program will involve both indoor and outdoor hands-on training in various conditions. Please come prepared to work with your hands, lift heavy objects, and handle solvents that may stain clothing. We recommend wearing durable, work-appropriate clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, as well as sturdy closed-toe shoes. Gloves are also recommended for safety and comfort.

Feel free to bring your own hand tools if you have them and multimeter, though they are not required. To stay hydrated, we recommend bringing an insulated water cup—ice and water will be provided on-site.
Safety and practicality are key, so dress for the job and be ready to learn by doing. Let’s have a productive and hands-on experience!
